New Belgium Blackberry Whiskey Aged Oscar
We just got word this had arrived at the distributor and wanted to give you guys a crack at it before it hit the store tomorrow. First time released from New Belgium, one of the earliest sour beer producers in the United States. We haven't gotten to try the beer yet as it is just arriving in Maine, so here is the description from the brewery: "Oscar Aged in Blackberry Whiskey Barrels is a dark sour ale aged in blackberry-flavored whiskey barrels.
It's part of our Wood Cellar Reserve series, a collection of rare, small-batch wild and sour ales expertly aged by the most award-winning sour brewery in America. From individual barrel expressions, fruit and spice experimentation and fermentation explorations, the Wood Cellar Reserve represents our most ambitious efforts in our two biggest passions – wood and beer.
The beer inside contains the longest, continuous souring culture in America and will develop in the bottle for up to five years. Each batch is bottled-conditioned and 100% naturally carbonated, allowing for the perfect texture and carbonation that our blenders intended for this beer."
Oscar is one of the sour beers that New Belgium uses for blending to make their extraordinary sour beers. This is straight Oscar aged in blackberry whiskey barrels from Leopold Bros Distillery.
