I cannot tell you how excited we were to score a case of the 2020 Lapierre Morgon. Lapierre is considered one of, if not the, best producers of Cru Beaujolais which in my opinion is easily one of the most underrated wine regions in the world. Marcel Lapierre was part of the "Gang Of Four" that helped start the Natural Wine movement. The Gang of Four was dubbed by legendary wine importer Kermit Lynch, and the name has stuck ever since. These winemakers called for a return to the old practices of viticulture and vinification: starting with old vines, never using synthetic herbicides or pesticides, harvesting late, rigorously sorting to remove all but the healthiest grapes, adding minimal doses of sulfur dioxide or none at all, and disdaining chaptalization. This Morgon is produced from over 60 year old Gamay vines grown in gravel. This wine has vibrant, pure cherry flesh shines through, supported by refreshing acidity, a hint of violets, a slight gamey tone and grippy fruit tannins.
