Chateau de Saint Cosme Valbelle Gigondas

$ 79.99

So, the above Gigondas is Chateau de Saint Cosme's entry level, and it gets top wine in the world accolades.  This higher end Gigondas, Valbelle, is only produced in top vintages, meaning this wine isn't made every year.  Valbelle is a co-fermented cuvée of old vines with an average vine age of 80-years and from five different vineyards.  This vintage is putting up 94-96 Points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and 96 Points from Wine Spectator.  Wine Spectator says: " This is packed with rich, succulent flavors of fig, boysenberry and blackberry compote, layered with anise, ganache and toasted apple wood notes. The strong, grippy spine is well-embedded through the lengthy finish, while the fruit easily keeps pace."  Robert Parker's advice is  "Incorporating 10% Syrah, the Grenache-dominated 2015 Gigondas Cuvee Valbelle is another heavenly wine from Louis Barruol. Full-bodied, seamless and elegant, with lots of crème de cassis, crushed flowers, incense and white pepper, it has a touch less mid-palate depth than the single vineyards, but is impeccably balanced and will have two decades of longevity.  These are undeniably great wines that readers should buy as much as they can afford."  We were only able to snag 6 bottles as these are highly allocated and desired wines.  They retail for $79.99. A special occasion wine that has a drinking window  of 10-15 years.
